Fleece for the Handspinner

Alpaca fleece is much softer than sheep's wool, as well as being warmer, lighter and stronger.  Silver Cloud Alpacas' fleece is carded in batts on a Patrick Green Supercarder (makes spinning a dream!) and is available in a variety of colours, ranging in price from $9 - $13 (CDN) per 100 grams, depending on the fineness of the fleece. Also available is white alpaca fleece carded with dyed silk in a variety of colourways, at $18 (CDN) per 100 grams.

Please contact us for ordering information.

100% Alpaca Yarn

We have a variety of alpaca yarn in different weights available.  The yarn is all from our own alpacas and is spun at a nearby mini-mill, Wilton Road Custom Fibre Mill in Odessa.

The finest fleece is spun into lace/fingering weight yarn (~300 yards per 50 gm. skein) and a lot of it is hand dyed in a range of  colours.  One skein makes a lace scarf, and a pattern for a super simple lace scarf is included in the cost of the skein: $18 for hand dyed and $16 for natural white.

There is also a lace and rib scarf kit available in sport weight yarn (~300 yards per 100 gm. skein).  This scarf uses 150 gm of yarn and makes a scarf approx. 5 inches by 76 inches.  The kit (yarn plus pattern) costs $39 for hand dyed colours and $36 for natural white.

Coming soon: kits for hats and mitts.

Yarn and kits are available at Rosehaven Farm Store in Picton, at the Wilton Road Custom Fibre Mill, at the Purple Sock yarn store in Coldwater, and from the farm (please phone ahead or email to confirm what is in stock).
