           Silver Cloud Alpacas

Fleece for the Handspinner

Alpaca fleece is much softer than sheep's wool, as well as being warmer, lighter and stronger.  Silver Cloud  Alpacas' fleece is available either carded in batts on a Patrick Green Supercarder or in rovings done at a mini-mill.  A variety of colours is available with prices ranging from $11 to $16 per 100 grams, depending on the fineness of the fleece.  Also available is white alpaca fleece carded with dyed merino in a variety of colourways, at $15 per 100 grams, and very fine white alpaca carded with dyed silk also in a variety of colourways at $20 per 100 grams.

Please contact us for ordering information.

100% Alpaca Yarn

We have a variety of alpaca yarns in different weights. The yarn is from our own alpacas and has been spun at mini-mills in Ontario.

The finest (softest) fleece is spun into lace/fingering weight yarn (~ 275 metres per 50 gm. skein) and is available in white, natural light fawn and many hand-dyed colours. One skein makes a lace scarf and a pattern for a simple lace scarf is included in the cost of the skein: $17 for undyed white or light fawn and $20 for hand-dyed.

There is sport weight (~230 - 250 m. per 100 gm) as well as DK weight ( ~ 200 m. per 100 gm) in white, light fawn and a range of hand-dyed colours. This yarn is suitable for scarves or sweaters.

There is worsted weight yarn (~140 - 150 m per 100 gm) suitable for hats and toques (patterns available using 100 gm), and bulky yarn (~115 m per 100 gm) suitable for mitts and toques (patterns available).

Cabled toque and twisted rib toque in worsted weight yarn.

Also available in other natural colours and dyed colours

There is sock yarn that is 75% alpaca, 15% nylon, and 10% merino hand-dyed in an array of unique colours for $22 per 100 gm (enough for a pair of socks).

We sell yarn as part of the artisans' market at the Sheep Dog Trials held at Grass Creek Park near Kingston every August and also at the Wolfe Island Fibrefest held in September. Yarn is also available at the farm (please phone ahead).
